New Feature: Chat at the tables!

Recently we quietly introduced a new chat room feature to our Poker tables. This new chat can be found on the right side of the Poker tables by clicking on the “Chat” table on the top right. This allows you to chat with other players at the Poker table, and anybody watching the game. While chatting, you can freely switch back and forth between your Profile view or view the profiles of other players. If somebody enters a message while you are playing and the chat window is hidden, the Chat tab will flash at the top right to let you know to switch to chat.
We’ve designed a full chat that shows you the pictures of the people you’re chatting with and supports smilies. You can view a list of options while chatting by typing /? in the chat window.
So far, we don’t see very many people using this feature. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s not visible all the time or if people really don’t like to chat while they play. Please give the chat a try and let me know if there is anything we can do to make it easier for you to chat. Do you think Chat should be visible when you first enter the Poker table? Should it beep when people are chatting?
As a basis for this chat, I used AjaxChat from http://www.ajaxchat.org. I had to heavily modify it to work with the poker accounts and avatars from Poker Underworld, and to auto-log players in and to create chat rooms for each Poker table. None of that would have been possible if AjaxChat weren’t such a great product, and I highly recommend anybody looking to integrate AJAX chat rooms into their website to give AjaxChat a try. Also if anybody needs help or has questions about AjaxChat, feel free to write me!

The chat site is fine but .. the problem is is that when your chat get’s to the bottom of the page, you cannot see the chat any longer .
Aha! You’re right, I didn’t notice that. Seems to only happen if you aren’t focused on the chat tab – once you go back to the chat tab and somebody types it scrolls back down again. I’ll see what I can do to fix that!
While you’re pointing out issues, any idea why nobody likes to write in the forums?
I think all players should have an icon. The ones who don’t sneek in and out and u don’t see them and when they are at the table they blend in so much u forget they are there.
The chat help ie. /? should be advertised in the box somewhere.
/clear solves the non scrolling problem but i guess a lot of people don’t work this out.
It’s a shame no one uses chat cos its boring when i have to talk to myself “:(”
Next time i use the chat window I’ll ask them why but I bet they don’t answer.
Good point – we have added a new note to chat to let people know about /? and hopefully it will help out those who have problems with chat.
I’m really not sure how to get people chatting either.. I figured it would be a popular feature because poker can be boring between hands. Other sites have active poker chat.
Is anybody finding it hard to find the chat? There is a lot going on in the poker window – perhaps too much?
i did have profile & chat at the top right but its not there now.would like to no if you can fix or if it is on my end thx
it would be better to be chat in this ste.
